Conclusion...
Education is the fuel of childrens’ social, physical and emotional development and a teacher is the light which guides them towards a brighter future.
I have come to realise that my role as a teacher is not only to teach students fundamental skills and concepts, but also to foster motivated, life-long learners. What I have learned and observed in schools and in my own studies have showed me that my beliefs and approach as a teacher has a significant impact on my classroom and students, which has a ripple effect in their life. I now understand how motivating students in various ways, creating a multicultural education environment and employing successful strategies for management and assessment is crucial in the holistic development and success of my students.
During my next practicum I will teach with high self-efficacy and continually be self-aware and reflective of my teaching style and approach as I journey to become an effective teacher. Being aware of one-self’s approach , taking on board feedback and correction and being reflective is crucial in order to be the best teacher I can be and give my students the most meaningful, successful learning experiences possible (Larrivee, 2000). Based on my reflection I am committed to create a safe and engaging learning environment that fosters student independence, responsibility, respect and trust. Since I believe such an environment will motivate students to learn and build effective teacher-student relationships and provide learning contexts which is relevant and meaningful, which fosters successful students (Fraser, 2012).
I hold true to my personal image of teaching, which is that of nurture and growth for each individual, embracing their uniqueness and celebrating their success. Learning is a meaningful experience, which occurs daily in various ways. Sometimes what has been learned can have immediate effect, sometimes it is not realised for years to come.
What has changed for me, as I have reflected and gained in knowledge, is an increase in self-awareness of my beliefs, teaching style and approaches. This has created in me, even more so than before, a fiery passion to create a wonderful learning environment where young learners are embraced and encourage to reach their full potential.
